West Virginia football assistant Noel Devine arrested on felony strangulation charge
Assistant coach Noel Devine was taken into custody on a felony strangulation allegation and placed on indefinite leave by the Mountaineer football staff.
Former West Virginia star running back Noel Devine, now an assistant running backs coach and offensive analyst, was arrested on a felony strangulation charge and held at the North Central Regional Jail with a $40,000 bond. The arrest occurred shortly after the Mountaineers’ 52-7 win over UT Martin. Head coach Rich Rodriguez placed Devine on indefinite leave, noting that future decisions will be based on further details.
Devine, who went undrafted in 2011, briefly signed with the Philadelphia Eagles before moving to the CFL and later founding a speed-training company in Florida. He returned to Morgantown last season when Rodriguez rejoined the program. Rodriguez praised Devine’s knowledge of the system and his desire to give back to the university.
