West Virginia mother arrested after 6-year-old autistic son jumps from second-floor window

Fairmont law enforcement arrived after a 911 report that a child had jumped from a second-floor window of an apartment building. The child’s mother, 30-year-old Stevie Thibodeaux, claimed she was asleep and that child-proof locks normally prevented her autistic son from escaping, yet officers noted a missing screen on the window the boy used. The boy was transported to a local hospital where a toxicology screen detected cocaine.

Investigators searching the apartment found a device used for drug ingestion, a white powdery substance, and a food-stamp card, and Thibodeaux confessed to using cocaine and leaving the drug-laden plate in her closet. She was subsequently charged with child neglect creating risk of serious injury or death and placed in the North Central Regional Jail. The child’s current medical condition has not been disclosed.
