Western Australia spends $611 million on school upgrades and new campuses
The Department of Education reports $611.05 million was spent on public school infrastructure in Western Australia over the past year, including new schools and major upgrades.
Western Australia’s public school system received $611.05 million in infrastructure spending during the last financial year, according to the Department of Education’s 2025-26 report. The largest single outlay was $73.2 million for stage two at Piara Waters Senior High School, while Sunrise and Wungong Primary Schools opened for the new school year. Construction continues on primary schools in Alkimos, Banksia Grove and Piara Waters, targeting openings in 2027, and new secondary schools are planned for Brabham and Alkimos.
Education Minister Sabine Winton promoted the $165 million East Perth Primary School and a $316 million upgrade of 17 schools, alongside a $400 million maintenance package. The government also pledged to retrofit air-conditioning in 45 schools, with six already upgraded, a rollout that opposition minister Liam Staltari says is lagging.
Why it matters
The investment aims to accommodate Perth’s growing student population and modernise aging school facilities.
