Western Australian police officer charged with assault on his newborn baby
A 30-year-old WA police officer has been stood down and charged with aggravated common assault after allegedly attacking his five-week-old infant on Sunday.
The officer was arrested by Child Abuse Squad detectives and faces a charge of aggravated common assault. The baby was taken to Perth Children's Hospital as a precautionary measure. WA Police confirmed the officer’s suspension and said he will appear before Midland Magistrates Court on Thursday. The police minister, Reece Whitby, has been contacted for comment.
