Western Europe sees steepest Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon price hikes worldwide
Research indicates that subscribers in western Europe have faced the largest subscription price increases among all markets for Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video in recent years.
Ampere’s analysis finds that western European users of Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video have endured the steepest subscription price growth globally, with an average monthly increase of $1.86 (£1.36) over the last three years. This surpasses the United States, where the rise averaged $1.70, and far exceeds regions such as sub-Saharan Africa, where increases stayed below $1. The higher fees support larger content budgets and profit expansion, reflected in Netflix UK’s record £2.06 bn revenue and rising pre-tax profit.
In the United Kingdom, recent price changes raised the ad-supported tier to £5.99 and the ad-free tier to £12.99 per month. Although the percentage increase has fallen from 24% to 14% between 2023-24 and 2025-26, ad-free packages still see larger nominal jumps than ad-supported ones. Jaanika Juntson of Ampere Analysis attributes the slowdown to diversified monetisation strategies and heightened competition. The piece also references unrelated speculation about the Duchess of Sussex’s potential acting role.
