Western Visayas board backs P40-P45 daily minimum-wage rise for private workers

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Western Visayas approved a daily minimum-wage increase of P40 to P45 for private-sector employees, pending the labor secretary’s sign-off.

The RTWPB-6, chaired by Sixto Rodriguez Jr., voted to raise the minimum wage for private workers in Western Visayas, including Negros Occidental and Bacolod City. Agricultural laborers will see a P45 hike, moving their floor wage from P520 to P565 under Wage Order 30. The proposal now awaits approval from the labor secretary before becoming effective. The increase is part of a broader effort to adjust wages in the region.

Why it matters

Higher minimum wages will boost earnings for many low-paid workers in Western Visayas.
