Whataburger launches $4 'More for $4' value menu to rival fast-food giants

Whataburger introduced a $4 value meal lineup called “More for $4,” featuring junior versions of its classic items, with an optional upgrade to a full meal for an additional $3.

Whataburger, headquartered in San Antonio, unveiled a $4 value menu dubbed “More for $4,” featuring junior-sized versions of four popular items: Bacon & Cheese Whataburger Jr., Whataburger Patty Melt Jr., Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich Jr., and Buffalo Ranch Chicken Strip Sandwich Jr. Shoppers may upgrade any of these to a complete meal by adding a small order of fries and a drink for an extra $3, bringing the total to $7 before tax.

The company, which operates over 12,000 locations across 17 states, also streamlined its menu to include Jr. Whatameals that come with fries and a drink. Jessica Reicher, the chain’s chief operating officer, said the new pricing is meant to match guests’ desire for affordable, made-to-order meals. The move arrives as industry-wide price increases affect fast-food chains, with competitors like McDonald’s and Burger King also expanding their value offerings. Consumer response appears positive, with social-media creator Emma Ezzell praising the portion sizes and flavor of the Buffalo Ranch Chicken Strip Sandwich Jr. in a recent video.

Why it matters

The new low-price menu shows Howaburger’s strategy to stay competitive as fast-food prices rise.
