WhatsApp introduces guest calling feature allowing non-users to join calls

WhatsApp will let people without an account join voice or video calls as guests, using a web browser.

WhatsApp is adding a guest calling capability that enables users without a WhatsApp account to join calls through a web browser. A host must invite and approve the guest, who can then participate in either one-on-one or group calls. While guests can use core functions like screen sharing, raising a hand, and reacting with thumbs-up or heart emojis, they cannot initiate calls, view other participants' phone numbers, send messages, or add more people.

No time restrictions are placed on guest involvement. The rollout is part of a broader push to improve collaboration, including a planned calendar-integration plugin for Google and Outlook later this year. Recent updates also added usernames, encrypted web calls and iPad sign-ups, signaling WhatsApp's focus on business-friendly features.

Why it matters

It expands WhatsApp's reach to non-users, making the platform more versatile for personal and business communication.
