Wheelchair user evicted from St. Louis public housing after self-defense shooting
Torrey Holliday, a wheelchair-bound resident of St. Louis public housing, was served an eviction notice after police deemed his gunfire at an intruder self-defense.
A St. Louis public-housing tenant who uses a wheelchair, Torrey Holliday, faced immediate eviction after shooting an armed intruder in the building lobby. Law enforcement treated the incident as justified self-defense, yet the St. Louis Housing Authority exercised its Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy to end his lease, pointing to video that shows him firing a weapon and allegedly endangering others. Holliday contended he carried a gun because the complex provided no security guards and that staff were aware of his firearm.
Neighbor Marvin McGee acknowledged a breach of the housing gun rule but emphasized Holliday’s disability and the circumstances. Holliday’s mother, Keisha Holliday, criticized the decision, saying her son is being penalized for defending himself. The agency cited privacy regulations that limit public discussion of individual tenancies, but the eviction proceeds independently of the criminal case.
