Whistleblower says DHS voter fraud probe forces agents to breach state laws

Senate Democrats unveiled a whistleblower filing that charges the Department of Homeland Security with directing U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officers to violate state laws in a program called the “Unlawful Voter Initiative.” The complaint alleges agents were told to employ illegal tactics and dubious data, even falsifying entries on state voter-registration websites to create federal records against presumed unlawful voters, including naturalized citizens.

DHS spokesperson dismissed the allegations, asserting the agency simply cross-references public voter rolls with immigration data and that the work is conducted professionally. The senators highlighted a recent case where an illegal immigrant, Mahady Sacko, was prosecuted for voting in multiple elections, using it to justify the probe. They warned that the use of faulty data could suppress legitimate voters and called on Secretary Markwayne Mullin and USCIS Director Joseph Edlow to suspend the investigation before the November 2026 midterms. The dispute underscores ongoing partisan battles over election security and immigration enforcement.
