Whistleblower urges Irish police to probe alleged retaliation by child agency

Former Tusla aftercare worker Ciarán Kenneally has asked the Garda Commissioner to investigate claims that the agency retaliated against him after he reported procurement irregularities.

Ciarán Kenneally resigned from a Tusla after-care service in Cork after making a protected disclosure about procurement and financial practices at the centre. He now claims the agency subjected him to severe workplace bullying, stress-related health decline and unlawful termination, and that staff conducted unauthorised background checks on him. Represented by solicitor Kevin Winters, Kenneally lodged a formal complaint with Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly, citing possible breaches of the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 and the Data Protection Act 2018.

The letter also demands compensation and warns of court action if Tusla does not respond within weeks. Independent TD Ken O’Flynn has called on Minister for Children Norma Foley to examine the case, while Tusla and An Garda Síochána have declined to comment beyond noting due-process requirements.
