White driver assaults Black woman with belt during Louisville road-rage incident

A white man in Louisville was recorded beating a Black woman with a belt-like object after a road-rage confrontation that began when a motorcyclist allegedly spat on her car.

Tenaya Stanford, 20, was traveling with her child on I-65 in Louisville when she says a motorcyclist spat on her car, leading her to open her door. A white Kentucky driver then confronted her, pulling her hair and whipping her with a belt-like object for over two minutes while bystanders recorded the attack without stepping in. Police body-camera and nearby surveillance footage reveal both individuals leaving their vehicles and engaging in a physical struggle, with Stanford attempting to defend herself with a weapon she later claimed was broken.

Chief Paul Humphrey described the incident as adults making poor choices and highlighted that additional video shows the driver exiting his car before the assault. The Louisville Metro Police Department has opened an active investigation, and the Jefferson County Attorney's Office said it will review the evidence to determine whether criminal charges are warranted.

Why it matters

The video highlights ongoing racial tension and raises questions about road-rage violence and law-enforcement response.
