White House press secretary Katie Zacharia previously worked as Beachbody affiliate marketer

White House press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed she worked as an affiliate marketer for the fitness multilevel-marketing firm Beachbody from 2013 until late 2023, describing the operation as “sort of a pyramid scheme.”

White House press secretary Katie Zacharia’s background has come under renewed scrutiny after she acknowledged a decade-long affiliation with Beachbody, the fitness company that operated a multilevel-marketing network. She joined the program in 2013, selling the Shakeology nutrition shake, and left the role during pregnancy citing the product’s vitamin A content. Beachbody, now rebranded as BODi, confirmed she was among its 300,000 independent distributors, though the firm warned that past MLM practices differ from its current operations.

Zacharia’s earlier résumé lists positions at the Department of Homeland Security, a communications advisory role at Donald Trump’s media venture, and on-air commentary for several outlets, as well as a legal associate stint at Zhong Lun and a fundraiser role for the nonprofit Fix California. Despite being presented as an attorney in at least 18 televised appearances, records show she sat for the California bar exam but failed, leading a watchdog group to file a complaint with the State Bar of California.

The revelations join a pattern of Trump-aligned figures engaging in supplement-related MLM businesses, including former officials Kash Patel and nominee Nicole Saphier. The combined disclosures raise questions about the vetting process for senior White House staff and the credibility of their professional claims.

Why it matters

Revealing Zacharia’s MLM background and questionable legal credentials raises concerns about the vetting of senior White House officials.
