White nationalist Jake Lang plans “Christian Crusader” rally in Muslim-majority Dearborn
Jake Lang and pastor Lorenzo Sewell have organized a “Christian Crusader” protest at Dearborn City Hall, drawing criticism of Michigan officials for their quiet response.
White-nationalist Jake Lang, who was pardoned by Donald Trump for his involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, is organizing a “Christian Crusader” rally in Dearborn, Michigan, together with Detroit pastor Lorenzo Sewell. The pair plan to converge on Dearborn City Hall during a council meeting and have advertised the event on Facebook with language invoking the “great replacement” theory and a promised pig roast. Dearborn, home to the highest proportion of Muslim residents in any U.S. municipality, has repeatedly been targeted by Lang’s anti-Islamic actions, including Quran burnings.
Mayor Abdullah Hammoud and local Muslim groups have called for calm and advised residents to avoid the protest, while the city’s police chief has announced an increased police presence. State officials have faced criticism for their muted stance; Rep. Rashida Tlaib condemned the silence, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer later issued a statement urging people not to engage with the agitators, without explicitly naming Muslim residents.
Why it matters
The planned rally threatens communal harmony in a city with a large Muslim population and highlights political leaders' reluctance to confront rising Islamophobia.
