White Sox announce resignation of longtime amateur scouting director Mike Shirley

The Chicago White Sox disclosed that Mike Shirley, the head of their amateur scouting operation, resigned on Saturday after a quarter-century with the franchise. Shirley was promoted to the top scouting role following the 2019 draft and oversaw selections that produced players like Garrett Crochet, Colson Montgomery, Noah Schultz, Grant Taylor, Hagen Smith and Caleb Bonemer, as well as first overall pick Roch Cholowsky.

The team has not provided an explanation for his exit nor outlined plans for the scouting department. Shirley has not yet replied to inquiries. While the club has seen considerable turnover since Chris Getz became general manager in late 2023, the scouting leadership, including assistant director Garrett Guest, remained stable until now.
