Why Siri May Fail to Respond When Using CarPlay and How to Fix It
Siri can stop answering on CarPlay due to iPhone settings, connection issues, or car infotainment problems, not just the voice assistant itself.
Drivers experiencing silent or unresponsive Siri on CarPlay should not assume the assistant is broken. The issue may originate from iPhone settings, like disabled "Hey Siri" or lock-screen restrictions, or from CarPlay being blocked under Screen Time controls. Connectivity problems differ between wired and wireless setups; a different cable or confirming Bluetooth/Wi-Fi auto-join can resolve many glitches.
Apple advises restarting both the phone and the vehicle, forgetting and re-pairing the car, and checking for infotainment firmware updates. Adjusting the car’s audio level while Siri speaks or enabling the "Prefer Spoken Responses" option may also improve audibility. If Siri works on the phone but not in the car, the CarPlay link itself is likely at fault.
