Widespread Russian air and drone strikes hit Kyiv and nine Ukrainian regions, causing civilian casualties
Russian missile and drone attacks struck Kyiv and nine other regions, killing several civilians including a child and injuring many others, while also damaging infrastructure.
A coordinated Russian strike using missiles and about 190 drones hit Kyiv and nine additional Ukrainian regions, aiming at a communications hub and energy infrastructure. Regional governor Tymur Tkatsjenko confirmed a child was among the dead in the Kyiv area, while Kyiv mayor Vitalij Klitsjko reported at least two fatalities inside the city and several injuries. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attacks also damaged facilities in Zjytomyr, Mykolajiv, Kirovohrad, Rivne, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson and Tsjerkasy, with a total of five people killed and fourteen injured nationwide.
Power outages impacted thousands, but DTEK engineers quickly restored service to roughly 8,000 households. Romania and Poland sent military aircraft to protect their airspace as the strikes unfolded. A separate drone strike was reported on a Russian oil hub in the Samara region, though independent verification was not possible.
