Widow sues Singapore Airlines after husband dies in sudden turbulence drop
Linda Kitchen has launched High Court proceedings against Singapore Airlines, alleging the airline is liable for her husband Geoff's death during a severe turbulence event that caused the plane to lose about 6,000 ft over Myanmar.
Linda Kitchen, a 74-year-old from Thornbury near Bristol, has commenced High Court action against Singapore Airlines following the death of her husband, Geoff Kitchen, 73, during a flight that suddenly dropped about 6,000 ft over Myanmar. The turbulence struck about ten hours after take-off from London Heathrow on a holiday trip to Singapore, Indonesia and Australia, prompting an emergency diversion to Bangkok. As the aircraft plunged, Geoff fell onto Linda, crushing her against an armrest and breaking her back, while a doctor on board attempted CPR.
Geoff later suffered a heart attack and died, a fact confirmed two days after the incident. Linda spent ten days in hospital, was airlifted back to the UK, and required extensive post-hospital care. Their lawyer, Anthe Korelidou, says the lawsuit aims to obtain answers and compensation for the family.
