Widower of slain service member demands accountability from Vice President after Iranian drone strike

Joey Amor, whose wife Nicole Amor died in an Iranian drone attack on a U.S. base in Kuwait, asked Vice President JD Vance how the administration will hold leaders accountable for alleged failures.

During one outlet-hosted town hall, Joey Amor, whose spouse Nicole Amor was among the first Americans killed when an Iranian drone hit the U.S. outpost at Kuwait’s Port of Shuaiba on March 1, confronted Vice President JD Vance about accountability for what he described as "mistakes" and "fundamental failures." Amor argued that inadequate fortifications and the inability to shoot down the drone contributed to the tragedy. Vance responded that he had only just learned of the specifics, offered condolences, and committed to uncovering exactly what went wrong.

He said the Pentagon is already revising tactics to suppress inexpensive drones and has moved troops after recognizing a major placement error. Vance promised further dialogue with affected families and vowed to prevent similar losses in the future.

Why it matters

The exchange raises questions about U.S. force protection and leadership accountability in the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict.
