WildBrain purchases child-safe AI firm Personality AI in deal up to $69 million

WildBrain has acquired the kid-focused generative-AI startup Personality AI in a cash-and-stock transaction that could reach $69 million.

WildBrain announced the acquisition of Personality AI, a startup that creates child-safe generative-AI characters, in a cash-and-stock arrangement valued at up to $69 million. The initial payment consists of about $11 million in cash and 1 million WildBrain shares, with an extra $2 million of shares to be issued on the first anniversary and up to $56 million in performance-based cash contingent on revenue between 2027 and 2029.

Personality AI, which previously built a Peppa Pig-based AI for Amazon Kids+, is part of the FTC-backed COPPA Safe Harbor Program and emphasizes safeguards that prevent the retention of child data. WildBrain CEO Josh Sceherba said the purchase will expand franchise opportunities for titles such as “Degrassi” and “Strawberry Shortcake.” Personality AI founder John Goscha will become WildBrain’s executive vice president for the unit and will report to Sceherba. Both executives highlighted a shared commitment to children’s wellbeing and trusted digital experiences.

Why it matters

The deal could reshape how children's brands use AI, merging popular IP with safe, interactive technology.
