Wildfires across Algeria claim 12 lives amid intense heatwave
A series of wildfires in several Algerian provinces killed 12 people and left dozens injured as a severe heatwave grips the region.
Interior Minister Said Sayoud reported that the blazes caused 12 fatalities, with deaths occurring in Jijel, Bejaia and Tizi Ouzou provinces. More than 50 individuals suffered burn injuries, including six in critical condition receiving intensive care. Civil protection officials logged over 150 wildfires nationwide on Wednesday, with a large concentration in Bejaia province. The disaster unfolds during an exceptional heatwave affecting North Africa.
