Williams sisters reunite for U.S. Open doubles after Serena's comeback

Serena and Venus Williams have been granted a wildcard to play together in the U.S. Open doubles draw, marking Serena's return to competition after a four-year hiatus.

The Williams sisters received a wildcard entry for the doubles event at the U.S. Open, a tournament they previously won in 1999 and 2009. Serena, 44, came back to the tour this summer following a four-year break but had to pull out of Wimbledon after hurting her knee in a singles match. The pair also competed at the Cincinnati Open, where they fell in the first round. Serena teamed with Carlos Alcaraz in mixed doubles, reaching the quarterfinals, while Venus, 46, is also entered in the women's singles draw.

Why it matters

Their reunion adds high-profile excitement and draws global attention to the U.S. Open.
