Windows desktop crashes passport kiosk at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport
A traveler at Paris-Charles de Gaulle reported that the ePassport gate froze and displayed a Windows 11 desktop, halting the queue until staff restarted the system.
During a recent trip through Paris-Charles de Gaulle, a traveler experienced a failure at a PARAFE ePassport gate in Terminal 3, where the machine crashed and presented a Windows 11 desktop instead of the usual interface. The error forced the gate to remain closed, creating a backlog that was only cleared after an employee manually started the appropriate software. The airport’s spokesperson acknowledged ongoing IT issues with the passport verification system that have caused significant processing delays.
This incident follows another glitch in Terminal 2 that forced a passenger to miss an April flight to the United Kingdom. The airport warned that such technical problems could continue to affect passenger flow.
Why it matters
Technical failures at passport control can delay travelers and expose security system vulnerabilities.
