Tom Tiffany, running as the Republican candidate for Wisconsin governor, was traveling in a four-seat Bonanza that lost power near Wausau Downtown Airport after his appearance at the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner. The loss of power forced an emergency water landing in Lake Wausau. Tiffany and the pilot quickly called 911, exited the sinking aircraft, and swam to a shallow area while awaiting rescue.
Emergency responders arrived by boat, extracted both occupants, and transported them to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where they received treatment for minor injuries. The cause of the power loss is still under investigation.
