Witness Insists Yayasan Tanah Aku Office Existed During Alleged Cash Handovers

A prosecution witness said the Yayasan Tanah Aku office in Publika was operational on the dates cash was allegedly handed over to Sayed Amir.

In the ongoing corruption trial of a former political secretary to former Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, a prosecution witness maintained that the Yayasan Tanah Aku office in Publika was in use when cash was allegedly passed to Sayed Amir Muzzakkir. Wan Azhar Mohamed Yusof, 51, managing director of Nexuscorpgroup Sdn Bhd, testified that he delivered RM100,000 on Dec 4, 2020, and RM250,000 on Dec 16, 2020, each in a paper bag, with only Sayed present.

The defence highlighted tenancy records showing the space had been empty since the end of 2019, but Wan Azhar said he could only confirm activity on the two specific dates he visited. Sayed Amir, 44, faces two counts of receiving RM350,000 as gratification for influencing a police tender worth over RM381 million, plus a separate solicitation charge. The case proceeds before Judge Rosli Ahmad with potential penalties of up to 20 years in prison.

Why it matters

The testimony addresses whether the alleged cash handovers could have occurred, influencing the outcome of a high-profile corruption case.
