Witness says accused hit man bragged about killing Australian surfers in Mexico

A Mexican court heard testimony from Ari Gisell, who was convicted last year for instigating a robbery that preceded the deaths of Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American companion Carter Rhoad. Gisell, the ex-girlfriend of accused assassin Jesús Gerardo—also known as El Kekas—said Gerardo told her he had killed the three foreigners and even laughed at a plea for mercy. She described how the victims had offered fuel at the remote surf spot Punta San José, and how Gerardo later returned with a blood-splattered vehicle, three phones, and chain necklaces.

The three men—Jesús Gerardo, Irineo Francisco and Ángel Jesús—are charged with aggravated homicide, aggravated burglary, violent robbery and grand theft auto. Gisell, now sober after more than two years in prison, provided details that had not been public before. The trial, initially expected to last four weeks, has been extended due to a sudden change of judge and scheduling problems.
