Witnesses describe night a woman was shot dead as brothers face murder committal
A committal hearing was held for two brothers charged with murdering 23-year-old Chloe Jade Mason, after witnesses recounted hearing screams and gunshots in Caboolture.
Two brothers, Codye Ian Thomson and Kaine Raymond Thomson-Gleeson, faced a committal hearing in Caboolture Magistrates Court on murder charges relating to the death of 23-year-old Chloe Jade Mason, who died from gunshot wounds days before Christmas 2024. Witness Doris Jones testified she heard a scream at 11:54 pm on December 21, saw a woman being dragged and heard multiple shots, after which the woman fell near her window.
Another witness, Deborah McDonald, said she heard gunfire and a woman's scream while leaving a tavern. The defence highlighted inconsistencies in statements from Ethan James Preston and Robert Cornwall, who both admitted drug use at the time of their recollections. Solicitor Ken Mackenzie previously claimed the brothers acted in self-defence, but no weapon was found on Mason. The magistrate, Wood, committed the brothers to stand trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court, denied bail and returned them to custody.
