Woman and child in protest tent linked to Duduianu clan spark child-protection concerns

A tent set up in front of the Bucharest prison, housing Sidonia Duduianu and her daughter, drew public outrage and prompted authorities to review child-protection rules.

A photograph showing Sidonia Duduianu, identified as part of the Duduianu clan and a PRM candidate for the 2024 local elections in Sector 4, together with her daughter inside a tent outside the Arestul Capitalei, circulated widely on Facebook and TikTok, igniting public criticism. Commentators questioned the legality and morality of exposing a minor to such conditions during a protest. The Romanian gendarmerie confirmed it would notify child-protection authorities to verify whether minors were improperly involved in recent demonstrations.

In response, the political party AUR issued a statement pledging to provide legal counsel to anyone targeted by what it called abusive measures, including parents who brought children to protests. The episode also highlighted Sidonia’s husband, Samir Duduianu, who posted videos of the tent and is linked to the same clan, and referenced his recent appearance with politician Horațiu Potra at the Bucharest Court of Appeal. The incident underscores tensions over protest rights, child-protection enforcement, and the involvement of political figures linked to organized crime networks.
