Woman and Friend Abducted in Thrissur Lodge; Fake Police Allegedly Rape Victim

A woman and her male companion were seized in a Thrissur lodge by men posing as police, after which the woman was reportedly gang-raped.

On September 22, a woman and a male friend from Tiruppur stayed at a lodge close to the KSRTC bus station in Thrissur. A six-member gang, dressed as police officers, entered their room, bound and gagged the duo, and removed them in two cars. The man suffered severe injuries, including several fractures to his arms and legs, and was abandoned near a Tiruppur hospital; the woman was taken to a different vehicle where she was allegedly gang-raped.

Investigators believe the crime was orchestrated after the man's wife tracked his mobile location and relayed it to the perpetrators. Thrissur police have arrested five suspects—one near Nedumbassery airport, three in Tiruppur, and another in Palani—and are still searching for a minor suspected of involvement.

Why it matters

The case highlights severe abuse of authority impersonation and raises concerns about safety and police misconduct in India.
