Woman arrested after speeding, phone-distracted crash kills 8-year-old in Mumbai
Police say a 45-year-old driver, Megha Rawal, was arrested for allegedly hitting an eight-year-old boy with her car while talking on a mobile phone in Bandra, Mumbai.
On a Sunday afternoon in Mumbai’s Bandra district, an eight-year-old boy named Ansh Ravindra Gupta was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle. Police identified the driver as 45-year-old Megha Rawal, a resident of the area, who was allegedly on a mobile phone call at the time of the crash. The collision happened on John Baptist Road, directly opposite Jijamata Garden, as the child tried to cross the road.
Rawal’s Innova Crysta reportedly continued forward, running the child over before she was stopped. Emergency services rushed the boy to Holy Family Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Investigators have registered a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act, charging Rawal with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving and endangering public safety, and the probe remains ongoing.
