Woman arrested for murder after SUV plows into LA bus, preceding helicopter crash

Authorities arrested Bailee Lynn Rios, 36, of Simi Valley, on murder charges after her SUV traveled the wrong way down a busy Los Angeles avenue, ran a red light and struck a city bus, killing at least two people and injuring six others. One bus passenger was fully ejected and another partially ejected from the vehicle. The collision was being filmed when a news helicopter, operated by Angel City Air for two TV stations, crashed nearby about two hours later, killing reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw, and a 29-year-old bystander, Edy Gutierrez Mejia.

The Eurocopter AS350 caught fire, igniting nearby cars and storage containers. Aviation safety specialist Jeff Guzzetti said the alarm heard in the final video sounded like a low-rotor-RPM warning, indicating a possible loss of engine power. City leaders, including Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom, offered condolences to the victims’ families.
