Woman critically injured after massive pit bull mauls her on San Francisco street

Around 9:20 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, a massive pit bull launched a vicious attack on a woman walking near Larkin Street in the Tenderloin, leaving her with life-threatening wounds. A bystander filmed the scene, attempting to hold the dog back until an officer arrived and used a pole to pull the animal away. Police found the dog covered in blood, standing beside the victim, before it collapsed and was pronounced dead.
Emergency responders transported the injured woman to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition. San Francisco Animal Care & Control has assumed custody of the dog’s remains, and investigators are probing whether a neurological disorder or toxin may have triggered the behavior and sudden death.
