A 49-year-old woman identified as Navleen Kaur was detained after her car struck a 79-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife in Kirti Nagar, Delhi, leaving both seriously injured.
Police say the accident happened in the Kirti Nagar area of west Delhi at roughly 9:30 a.m. when Dayanand Tangra, 79, and his wife Kusum Tangra, 71, were walking home after a morning stroll. A Hyundai Creta, driven by 49-year-old Navleen Kaur, turned left and struck the couple from behind, propelling them into the air; the woman landed near an electric pole while the man was thrown a short distance away. Surveillance video captured the driver stepping out, briefly assisting the man before abandoning the scene.
Officers later arrested Kaur, seized the vehicle and charged her under section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving causing hurt.
