Woman Killed by Falling Rock While Joining Mother's Funeral Procession in Leonessa
A 60-year-old woman died when a large rock broke away from a mountain and struck her car during a funeral convoy on regional road 521 near Leonessa.
The tragedy occurred on the SR 521 linking Morro Reatino and Leonessa in the province of Rieti. The victim, about 60 years old, was traveling in a vehicle that was part of a funeral procession for her mother. A massive boulder fell, pierced the roof of the car and killed the occupant. The falling stone also hit other vehicles, injuring additional passengers. Firefighters attended the scene.
