Woman killed on bike in Saône-et-Loire, husband wounds driver with cutter
A 33-year-old mother was fatally struck by a vehicle while cycling with her children in Salornay-sur-Guye, and her husband later injured the driver with a cutter.
On Thursday, a 33-year-old mother attempted her first ride on a new bicycle along the road outside her house in Salornay-sur-Guye, accompanied by her children aged 8 and 10. An automobile traveling at excessive speed collided violently with her, causing her to be thrown and lose an arm, and she died on the spot, according to gendarmes. The driver, a man in his thirties, stopped close to the crash site.
The cyclist’s husband pursued him and attacked him with a cutter he had on his person, delivering multiple blows. The injured driver was transferred by helicopter to the CHU de Dijon, where his condition was described as non-critical. Prosecutor Anne-Lise Furstoss opened two separate investigations: one for the road homicide and another for the weapon-related assault. Blood tests and a speed-data extraction from the vehicle are underway.
