Woman loses over one million kroner in jewelry during Oslo home burglary
Ida Berg Hauge reported that thieves stole gold, diamonds and pearls worth more than one million kroner from her Majorstuen apartment, and police have closed the case due to lack of suspect information.
While on vacation, Ida Berg Hauge received a call from police informing her that her Majorstuen apartment had been broken into. Investigators determined that thieves entered the building, forced open her door and removed gold, diamonds, pearls and other high-value jewellery estimated at over one million kroner, leaving only silver items behind. Police collected trace evidence from three locations in the flat but found no DNA, and after interviewing neighbours and checking surveillance they closed the case for lack of suspect information.
The robbery is part of a broader trend, with reports of serious residential thefts in Oslo up 34 % in the first half of 2026 versus the same period in 2025. Berg Hauge, who describes herself as a “jewellery-man,” also says the thieves accessed a neighbouring unit via her balcony, though details of that theft remain unclear. She holds a “Topp innboforsikring” with Fremtind, which caps jewellery coverage at 350 000 kroner, a limit she believes is insufficient for the loss.
