Woman sentenced to 10 months in jail for spitting at police during election protest

A Seoul court sentenced a 45-year-old woman named Kim to ten months in prison for spitting on a police officer and assaulting others at June election rallies.

The Seoul Eastern District Court convicted Kim of obstructing official duties after she attacked a police officer trying to restrain her and assaulted four additional people during protests over ballot shortages at the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium on June 22-23. The court cited her repeated assaults since February and a 2024 bipolar disorder diagnosis, but noted her admission of guilt and remorse when determining the ten-month term.
