Woman’s Itchy Breast Dismissed as Detergent Issue, Later Revealed as Advanced Cancer
Kimberley Brown ignored a burning itch in her breast after her GP suggested changing detergent, only to discover stage-three breast cancer that later metastasized.
Kimberley Brown first noticed a burning, itchy feeling near her right breast in September 2020 and consulted her GP, who dismissed it as a detergent issue and recommended a sensitive body wash. A bead-sized lump was later detected, and a biopsy in October 2020 diagnosed her with stage-three breast cancer. She underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, achieving a cancer-free status in March 2021 and remission by October 2025.
In early 2026, new symptoms of pressure headaches and blurred vision prompted further scans, which uncovered ten brain lesions, multiple liver lesions, a lung mass and several pelvic tumours. Facing a limited prognosis, Brown, a mother of two from Devizes, Wiltshire, has started a fundraiser to help pay for her funeral and create memories for her children. She also calls for public awareness of breast itch and burning sensations as possible warning signs of cancer.
