Woody Johnson acquires minority share and vice-chair role at Aston Martin F1
American billionaire Woody Johnson has bought a minority stake in the Aston Martin Formula 1 team and will serve as its vice chairman.
Woody Johnson, the U.S. billionaire behind the New York Jets and a major shareholder in Crystal Palace, has purchased an undisclosed minority share of the Aston Martin Formula 1 outfit. He will sit on the board as vice chairman, adding his experience in American sports to the team’s leadership. Lawrence Stroll continues to hold a 33 percent stake and will keep his role as executive chairman and controlling shareholder.
Aston Martin described the investment as evidence of the sport’s growing appeal, particularly across the Atlantic, and said Johnson will focus on commercial expansion without handling day-to-day operations. The team currently sits tenth in the Constructors’ Championship and is working with a new Honda power unit for the 2026 season. The announcement comes ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, which will be broadcast live on one outlet.
Why it matters
The deal brings a high-profile American investor to a UK F1 team, aiming to grow the sport’s U.S. commercial reach.
