Worker fatally crushed by ute at Coffs Harbour service station

A 36-year-old service station employee died after being pinned by a ute at a United Petroleum forecourt in east Coffs Harbour.

Around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, a 36-year-old worker at a United Petroleum station on the NSW Mid North Coast was checking the fuel tanks when a ute entered the forecourt. The driver, a 44-year-old woman, paid for fuel and then drove away, leaving the employee trapped under the vehicle. Police and paramedics responded quickly; the man was taken to hospital in critical condition and died several days later.

Investigators said rain was present but did not consider it a factor. The woman was arrested on the spot, charged with negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm and breaching bail, and granted bail pending a court appearance on October 28.

Why it matters

The incident highlights safety risks for workers at fuel stations and raises questions about driver accountability.
