Worker injured in explosion at Sadu Mechanical Plant's pyrotechnic workshop

Around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, a hose used to empty a precipitation vessel ruptured, triggering an explosion in the pyrotechnic workshop of the Uzina Mecanică Sadu in Bumbești-Jiu. The 54-year-old regulator, who has worked at the plant for 21 years, sustained first-degree burns, shrapnel wounds to his upper and lower limbs, chest, abdomen and face, and a fracture in his right foot. He was transported to Spitalul Județean de Urgență Târgu Jiu for medical care.

The blast also shattered a window in the workshop. Other staff present were not harmed. The accident has been reported to the Inspectorat Teritorial de Muncă Gorj, whose inspectors are expected to investigate the circumstances.
