World No. 1 Jannik Sinner pulls out of Shanghai Masters due to knee injury

Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Rolex Shanghai Masters because a knee injury has kept him out since his Wimbledon win.

World number one Jannik Sinner confirmed on Instagram that he will not compete in the Rolex Shanghai Masters because of a knee injury that has sidelined him since his Wimbledon victory in July. The 25-year-old Italian has also missed the North American hard-court swing, the US Open and the ongoing ATP 500 tournament in Beijing. The Shanghai Masters, a Masters 1000 event running until October 18, will feature a strong lineup headlined by four-time champion Novak Djokovic, along with Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime and defending champion Valentin Vacherot.

Sinner’s absence opens a path for Zverev, who could claim the world No. 1 ranking by winning both the Beijing China Open and the Shanghai Masters. The tournament remains a key late-season showdown despite the Italian’s withdrawal.

Why it matters

Sinner's pullout reshapes the race for the year-end world No. 1 ranking and impacts the Shanghai Masters field.
