World Series champ Matt Beaty calls it quits at age 33

Matt Beaty, a left-handed utility man drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015, announced his retirement at age 33 via Instagram. He broke out in 2019, posting a.265/.317/.458 slash line and hitting a two-run walk-off home run against the Colorado Rockies after just 58 career plate appearances. Beaty was part of the Dodgers' 2020 World Series championship team, though he struggled that season.

In 2022 he was traded to the San Diego Padres for River Ryan, and later spent time with the San Francisco Giants, Kansas City Royals, and the Arizona Diamondbacks' Double-A club, where he played his last game in September 2024. Over 290 regular-season games he compiled a.247 average with 19 homers and 96 RBIs. His Instagram farewell cited lingering doubts about continuing to play and a desire to move on to the next chapter of his life.
