Wrexham targets top-six finish as new signings bolster Championship campaign

Three months after missing the play-offs, Wrexham launch their 2026-27 Championship bid with a match at Cardiff City, following a narrow Carabao Cup defeat by Middlesbrough. Phil Parkinson’s side builds on a historic seventh-place finish, supported by 13 signings made in the previous summer, including full-back Danny Imray, midfielder Ben Whiteman and goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. The team scored 69 league goals last season, out-performing most rivals, but conceded 65, placing them near the bottom of the defensive rankings.

Injuries to wing-backs Issa Kabore and Liberato Cacace and rotation in the back three were noted as areas to improve, while the return of a fully fit Imray should strengthen the right flank. Off the pitch, owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are overseeing the construction of a 7,500-seat Kop Stand and anticipate revenue growth to between £46m and £50m by June 2026. The club’s clear objective this year is to finish higher than last season and secure a play-off spot.
