Wrong-way crash on M1 leads to three arrests, including teenage girl
A vehicle traveling against traffic on the M1 near Wakefield collided with another car, leaving a man in his 20s seriously injured and prompting three arrests, among them a 15-year-old girl.
Around 11 p.m. on the M1 northbound near junction 41 close to Wakefield, a blue Kia Proceed travelled the wrong way after not stopping for police, colliding with a red Dacia Sandero. The Dacia’s driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious, possibly life-altering injuries, according to West Yorkshire Police. One passenger left the scene, while three others incurred minor injuries.
Police have arrested an 18-year-old man, a 15-year-old girl and a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving; the woman is also charged with being over the prescribed alcohol limit. The incident follows a fatal wrong-way crash on the A66 near Middlesbrough last month, which claimed the lives of two Cleveland Police officers and five occupants of the offending vehicle.
