WWII-era explosive found near Budapest’s Szabadság Bridge, area cleared
A suspected World War II bomb was discovered close to the Szabadság Bridge in Budapest, prompting authorities to cordon off the riverbank.
The Hungarian Defence Forces’ ordnance unit reported that a likely WWII-era shell was uncovered near the Szabadság Bridge along the Danube. Police established a safety perimeter and evacuated nearby pedestrians and a docked vessel, affecting roughly fifty people. The device, identified as armor-piercing ammunition, was later removed by military bomb technicians to a central collection site.
