Xi and Trump Seal Trade, Investment and Drug-Control Deals in Washington Visit
Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump concluded several agreements on trade, investment and narcotics control during Xi's three-day state visit to Washington.
During a three-day state visit to Washington, President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan met with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, producing concrete outcomes in trade, investment and law-enforcement cooperation. The U.S.-China Board of Trade and Board of Investment began operating, and both countries announced $30 billion in tariff reductions for non-sensitive products. A bilateral working group will address agricultural and other sectoral barriers, while China committed to buying at least 10 million metric tons of American coal in 2027 and 2028.
Joint police efforts resulted in the detention of Chinese citizens accused of international narcotics trafficking, and both governments pledged to restrict the export of fentanyl-precursor chemicals. No military issues were announced, though the visit occurred amid ongoing tensions over Taiwan and China's expanding military capabilities.
