Xi Jinping conducts historic US visit and meets Modi before APEC summit
Chinese President Xi Jinping made his first state visit to the United States in over a decade and later met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
In September, Xi Jinping traveled to Washington for a landmark state visit, the first by a Chinese leader to the United States in more than ten years. He also attended the BRICS summit, where he held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking his first trip to India in seven years. China is set to host the APEC summit in November, where Xi will see U.S. President Donald Trump for a third meeting this year.
Why it matters
Xi's rare trips signal China's intent to deepen ties with the U.S. and India ahead of a key APEC summit.
