Yair Golan sues Sara Netanyahu for alleged defamation over Hamas attack comments
Opposition lawmaker Yair Golan has filed a defamation lawsuit against Sara Netanyahu, accusing her of spreading false claims about his knowledge of the Hamas assault.
Yair Golan, head of the centre-left Die Demokraten, has lodged a defamation complaint against Sara Netanyahu, alleging she insinuated he had prior knowledge of the Hamas assault on Israel. In a recent Channel 14 interview, she claimed Golan was already dressed and ready on the morning of the attack, whereas the prime minister and others were not. Golan, a former deputy chief of staff, later joined the armed response and helped save at least six people at the Nova Music Festival, where dozens were killed.
He is demanding compensation and a formal withdrawal of the statements. The lawsuit arrives as political pressure mounts on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of the forthcoming parliamentary vote.
