Yamaha Motor reports possible data exposure of 1,600 electric bike community members

Yamaha Motor said a cyberattack on a contractor's server may have leaked personal details of about 1,600 users of its PAS Life bike website.

Yamaha Motor Co. announced that a cyberattack targeting a server operated by its service provider, Commune Inc., may have compromised the personal information of roughly 1,600 members of the PAS Life electric-assist bicycle community site. Information potentially exposed comprises members' names, residential addresses, dates of birth, gender and the self-introductions they posted on the platform. The breach did not involve any credit-card or other payment data, and Yamaha said it has found no sign that the leaked details have been misused.

The company also reported that its own internal networks remain secure with no unauthorized access detected. This incident follows a recent wave of data-security incidents at Japanese companies, raising broader concerns about how businesses and their contractors protect user data. Yamaha is working with the contractor to assess the situation and mitigate any further risk.
